2. How confident are you in the effectiveness of the CASD’s Superintendent?



Why or why not?
The district is falling apart and the issues aren't being addressed.  Taxes are being raised, but none of the problems are being fixed.  Just throwing money away.
She fails to implement any activities/programs that’s will benefit the students, and she constantly fails to inform the community of important events.
She’s full of lies and fairness, never follows through with her promise
I am not sure of the honesty of her decisions.
Her lack of teacher support is creating hostile work environments. Implementing programs and curriculum without any training is damaging to our students and creates an extensive amount of stress to teachers.

She is toxic
The current state of our school district is sad. We are given contradictory directives daily pertaining the students: we should of hold them to high standards, yet give them unethical opportunities to pass; even when they have not earned it.
So many reasons. CPMs massive negative impact on my AP/Honors students math skills, severe lack of discipline evident at CASH that affects students, teachers, and staff, her refusal to acknowledge all evidence in front of her, amazing teachers leaving in droves, students fleeing to charter a d cyber schools, the massive tax increases, etc.
Just a gut feeling
Based on reading about all the issues isn’t The district and the lack of improvement and very high taxes. No return
In my time, she has cut back on special needs classes, teachers and aids for kids. She has drastically changed the schedule of teacher in which most times they are unable to get breaks, bathroom breaks or even ability to leave work on time to be home for their family.
Seems to me that our schooling has taken a dip since she has taken over. My son can have a low grade one day and the next have an A because he made up some work. just pushing them through is not the key
She only wants to raise taxes every year.  Retired people can't afford to live in Coatesville.
She Exhibits extreme professionalism in everything she does research and has background for every decision
They are self-serving first
She has proven to be a failure with retaining students and we watch millions of our tax dollars shift to charter schools.
She has bullied employees and hoodwinked previous Board majority into establishing a destructive agenda. She is incapable of changing.
Broken promises, severity of discipline problems being addressed, lack of special education programs, removal of alternative education program, little to no expectations and standards for students to strive for, physically watching the morale of our educators and staff wiped out from beneath them!

Things have changed for the worse
Taschner has destroyed CASD.  Abuses her authority by making decisions that do not benefit students or teachers, bullying and intimidating any employee who objects to her. She had created an unsafe, chaotic, stressful environment for students and teachers. She has removed valuable resources such as classroom aides, emotional support teachers and classrooms, reading specialists, resource rooms... just to mention a few.
Lack of discipline
She is far from a community supporter
Ever since she has been in,  we have lost more teachers and money because of her
I think she’s in over her head and lacks the humility to (a) admit that she’s not an expert on everything, or (b) accept responsibility for decisions that don’t work out.
She is not a good leader , uses threats to lead her employees and does not have the students best interests in mind
She talks a good game, but seems to actually just push her agenda and look out for her friends without regard for what’s best for the students or the teachers.
My husband & I tried for over 4 years (elementary & 2 yrs of my sons middle school years) to get him an IEP. He has ADHD, & a reading comprehension issue). We went to a district sponsored meeting for special needs students & talked personally to Dr. Tashner in regards to getting him an IEP. He has “flown under the radar”for yrs, & all the professionals at the schools said my son did not have these issues & did not qualify for an IEP (even w/pages of proof....that we spent hundreds of $$ on, from DuPont). Within 2 weeks of his 7th grade yr in middle school, Dr. Tashner made sure our son finally received the IEP he deserved!! This alone tells what type of superintendent she is. This was right before the start of a new school year & she took the time out of her busy schedule to ensure the IEP happened for him!!!
Student population has dwindled. Teacher morale and salaries are depressing. Buildings aren't being properly maintained. Discipline is poor and needed aides aren't provided for disruptive students. Taxes are forcing seniors to get jobs or sell their homes. Academics are poor, even the sports teams aren't what they used to be.
She is ruining the schools.  She is thinking of it as a business not an educational school system. 
Losing money, losing good teachers.  Bad employee morale

Disconnect from teachers, community.
Teachers leaving, students leaving in large numbers.
Unorganized, for example restructuring of middle schools. Completely incompetent in all aspects.
The decline in discipline, test scores and teacher morale has been significant since her tenure.  This equals a decrease in property value.
The school district has gone extremely downhill since Kathy Taschner took over.  Academics, respect for our teachers and the community, lack of discipline for our kids to learn what is acceptable and UNacceptable to name a few.
She has raised the standards of the school district
CPM math is a joke.  Taschner forced the high school math teachers to get rid of any math textbooks that were not CPM.  She spends money on outsourcing jobs that have employees who have no vested interest in our community, our students or our schools.  She refuses to look at people who wish to make comments at board meetings--I could go on!
Does not seem to listen or care about anything except her own agenda.
Students and teachers leaving due to lack of discipline with detracts from teacher effectiveness.
Our superintendent had shown countless times that she only cares about her own agenda.  She has no consideration for teachers, staff or students. 
IEPS are not being followed at all.  It is very sad my daughter is not getting the help she needs.  No more resource room she does not have a teacher to go to and help her.  We have loss good teachers in the special ed dept because of her they are over worked.  Too many meetings throughout the day and are not able to attend the co taught classroom to assist.
Just look at the number of students and teachers who have left the district and the complaints about lack of discipline in the schools.
Unfortunately I am confident in the fact that the current superintendent is able to accomplish things and effectively complete items on her agenda. However, I am entirely unconfident in what she chooses to prioritize to get done. This is due to the fact that many of her decisions have not represented the community’s desires and wishes for the district, or even that of some board members as well.
She's lost the respect of her teachers, several prominent members of the community, previous employees who were either fired or chose to leave rather than continue to work with or for her and even current members of the administration that speak privately against her and her methods. There are reports that other superintendents within our county have a level of disdain for her that speaks poorly about her character. Discipline among students is sparse and inconsistent at best with several incidents of inappropriate behavior going completely unchecked while reported "strong arm" intimidation techniques are employed against teachers and administrative personnel
Teachers and students report a general state of unrest that is in no way conducive to a healthy learning environment.
To many issues with her and the teachers.  Bad environment for them. Unhappy teachers equals poor total environment in school
She does not understand the needs of coatesville... this is a diverse place, not just in skin color but in class and educational needs. Everyone learns different

I do not see the students and teachers benefiting from the leadership in any way
I am a previous employee.  I have seen her community involvement and have witnessed her her interaction with so many students.   I appreciate the order she has been attempting to bring to the district after the unusual hiring practices of the previous administration.  However, the changes have brought with them, some negative results, such as the changes to the special education and gifted programs as well as the number of teachers we have lost and not replaced.

There is a lack of transparency with the school, teachers, staff, parents, and students. Dr. Tashner is not working towards getting the school district on track. She is focused and working in what her personal goals are or what she believes the district needs.

 Because when she Came in, we were in trouble. A 400 pound person did not gain the weight overnight and it’s going to take a while to lose it-We are going in the right direction.

The decisions that are made that should represent the greater good are not being made in a transparent nor well informed manner.

Way too many issues within the schools

I have seen a consistent "dumbing down" of the academics provided by the district. Pre-AP in middle school is supposed to "introduce" students to opportunities in HS? But then she takes away the AP courses in HS? Plus, there's not an opportunity for higher learners to forge ahead, due to the requirements the teachers have of teaching students of all levels in one class. She also makes grand gestures (ALS class) and doesn't ensure that the curriculum, books, and teachers are ready to go at the beginning of the year. That same sentiment could be said for her plan (or lack thereof) for the MIDDLE SCHOOLS! She is smoke and mirrors, not concrete results.
Families pulling kids out of schools at an unheard of rate and sending to charters or other schools. Unsafe schools. No discipline. Students curse all the time without any discipline, students just walk out of class with no discipline.
Do not trust. Says one thing to your face,  and executes something else. 
Promises have been made and broken repeatedly.
She refuses to consider promoting good qualified teachers so they leave the district to go somewhere they are appreciated. We are losing great teachers left and right. She makes unreasonable demands on some of the staff.
I just don't think she has our staff and students in her best interest.
I don't know enough about all the issues to say, but what I do know and what I hear is in good and I would like for someone that represents Coatesville and is going to bring out the best in our teachers and our students, and who has the school district's best interest in heart!! A school board that listens to their community and their teachers
Seems she is making decisions and not getting approval from the school board?
Things seem to be falling apart throughout the district.  I am very concerned about the special ed department,  teacher moral and test scores.
Believe she has created a atmosphere ,processes, procedures and standards not conducive to learning. Refuses to listen to community and her employees
She doesn't seem to care about the Coatesville community, and is mostly against what we want for our children. Lack of discipline in schools and support for our teachers has greatly influenced our children's education for the worst. Also, her lack and the administration's lack of transparency doesn't help.
Taxes continue going up while now and now people are dissatisfied with what is offered and unrest grows in the community as a result.  Discipline and order are not taking place in the schools which is why my children will not attend our district schools.  I want my children safe and in a healthy learning environment where they will thrive. I believe the policies the superintendent has changed will prevent my children from being the best that they can be.
I don’t have any personal contact or experience with the superintendent.
Teachers have been leaving, schools are closing, kids are leaving in droves for Charter schools
She doesn't care about Coatesville. She cares about herself. That's why so many great teachers left!!!

I have watched the moral of teachers go down over the last few years. Also watching services being removed from schools and only having push in services is a detriment to all student, both regular and special education. Behavior issues are constant and there is no consistency for discipline because the superintendent doesn’t back up the principals or teachers, she only worries about what parents will post about her on social media. Principals and teachers need to be able to discipline without having to worry about being reprimanded by their boss. 
As a current taxpayer and former employee (teacher) I know firsthand of the foul ways she treats the teachers. She blatantly lies to the community. Passes the blame onto others. And is not respected/wanted by the majority of the taxpayers. She is making this district worse rather than better.
Her decision to mainstream, to remove our mental health specialists.  Her lack of communication with our teachers.  The "bullying" of teachers. CPM math and the lies she tells about them
Our district is failing and she is not able to admit it.  It is impossible to fix something you don’t think is broken. 
Worst school district around. Insane taxes I have to pay to still send my children to private school to get quality education.
My daughter is in special Ed and has made little to no progress in her goals. She doesn’t care about the special Ed children at all.
Why was she hired to begin with? Simple
background history showed what she did in her previous position. Therefore I also blame the folks that hired this person. Why can’t this school district hire a decent person ??? The moves that have been made in staff and curriculum don’t make sense, and no one understands what her end motive is.
Our current super has been there 4 years and I don’t think that anything has improved within the school district.
Our taxes continue to go up and students continue to leave with a great majority citing reasons such as lack of discipline, and lack of supports and services. Both fixable issues from the top down. Student and teacher morale is low because she has created an environment of distrust, retaliation, and fear which in no way benefits our students or our community.
Coatesville has had nothing but crooked superintendents. They have done nothing but raise taxes every year making living in coatesville unaffordable. I don’t trust the people in charge of the district and that is why my son goes to a charter school.
She is an evil bitch, or possibly possessed by an evil bitch. Either way, cast her out.
She institutes new policies, curriculum, and procedures without research or consulting those who they will effect. 
Worried about the lack of support staff
Not transparent and lacks proper planning, everything is last minute.  Her way or the highway approach is another problem.
Due to the success of my children in the district
She has lied right to my face when it came to special education for my child. She says one thing then turns around and does the opposite! She does not support the teachers. Teachers are leaving the district because of her.
Poor fiscal management.
Allowed decay to the districts buildings.
Destruction of employee morale and desire to remain with the district.
I do not think she has the educational expertise to be making all the decisions she is making.
No transparency, hidden agendas, violations of law and district policies and it goes on and on .
Teachers are not feeling secure in their jobs, not able to teach how they need to and their input is not used.
Curriculum changes that are needed are not being listened to, or CPM. She is directing people to the principals and saying that the principals have control of the curriculum.
Feel like the super is giving lip service to complaints.
She has not shown she can produce solid results that positively benefit both the students and teachers.
I have heard from several people I trust and are close with the district that there is very little law and order at the school. When I heard from trusted people that the high school and 9/10 center are best described as the “inmates run the asylum,” there’s a real problem. There is no way I would send my child to the high school or middle school because of the absolute dysfunction that exist there.
Do not get a good vibe about decisions she is making
She doesn’t support her staff or listen to the community! People are leaving Coatesville School District because she does nothing about discipline! Many teachers have also left!
I’m a taxpayer and employee. I see firsthand the detrimental decisions and lacking of planning that effect our schools daily. Our children are losing valuable education while funds are being wasted and mismanaged

Pathetic state of affairs in every building from pride to lack of discipline and extremely low test scores with lowered requirements for graduation. This lady is a phony and liar to her staff and the community  ! Teachers have been treated miserably and the direction of the district with constant huge tax increase is horrendous.  Of course she doesnt care since she has never moved into the district !
Our personal experience was we were lead to believe the right thing would be done instead unethical behavior was done it was very disturbing.
What I have heard from others.
The exodus of teachers/students is overwhelming. The teachers have no support from the superintendent which has empowered the students who want to be problem children. Due to the fact she’s more concerned about the numbers of looking good than the well being of the environment. The students are running the school now because they know suspensions are a minimal option of discipline in the district. The superintendent has been running the district like a dictatorship and the reason we have loss so many teachers.
She doesn't listen. Not to her teachers or to the community. You cannot run a district under this manner.
She has done everything in her power to undermine every student, teacher, parent and taxpayers of the community and CASD.
Lack of regard/attention to special education
She has made one horrible decision after another. Taken the minorities out of professional positions. Killed the morale of district. She lies to your face with a smile. Seems to be destroying district purposely.
She uses intimidation to motivate employees, has behaved dishonestly in ways it would take too long to describe. Listen to the teachers and you will learn all you need to know.
I had heard from my best friend who is a teacher at Twin Valley about her. Everything g she said cane true.
This lady has destroyed the trust of so many within the district.
First: I cannot tell if my answers successfully sent before. It seemed like the survey timed out. I apologize if this is a repeat. Reason for my answer above: improvements in curriculum, partnerships with colleges, businesses, community organizations, increased opportunities for advanced courses. Curriculum example: when my now high schooler was in 6th grade before curriculum revamp, there was no 6th grade math curriculum. No textbook. None. He got worksheets every night where he had to solve math problems (mostly multiplying decimals) to solve a word puzzle. It was ridiculous. This may not be a popular opinion, but I am a big fan of CPM, particularly for kids who start with everyday math in elementary. My kids like it, too.
She seems to be following her own agenda and not listening to the board or the public
Has ideas but doesn’t seem to have any plans and things are falling apart.
There has been a mass exodus of students leaving the public school to get educated elsewhere. She has been unable to retain teachers and administrators.
Dr. Taschner leads by micromanagement and installs fear in those that work under her. Since her we have lost so many amazing teachers, students and families from this district. She makes directives to administration but doesn’t admit it instead throwing them under the bus. I am disappointed in her lack of effective leadership and clear lack of understanding about special education. Finally she has no plans for implementation of changes she has made and it all has caused disruption. It’s time for her to be removed or to move on.

Disruptive students causing inability to learn, NO accountability for discipline! Students fighting and committing crimes which get swept under the rug. She lies and twists information given to her to protect herself.  She destroyed special education and implemented inclusion without supports which is a disaster!  Took away mental health, behavior specialists, support/resource rooms.  No direct instruction for special needs children. CPM math is a disaster. No Autistic program.  She lied on safe school reports and continues this to present day!  She destroyed the whole district!! Seems like she does not have any degrees in education at all! She is NOT an advocate for our children in the district, she is killing them emotionally, socially, and educationally which is resulting in a pipeline to prison!
She does not make decisions in the best interest of the students and parents in many cases. I believe she is a good and kind person but not a good fit for her role. She does show up to everything and acknowledges achievements and supports which is great.
Taxes keep going up while the overall scores go down. Admin seems to do everything last minute or as a reaction rather than being proactive.
Special Ed. Dept needs more support, leadership and direction within the schools.
I pulled my son from the district due to the lack of services and know firsthand of other parents’ struggles with the superintendent to advocate for proper services especially regarding special education

Cathy Taschner is selfish and dangerous for our entire community. 
She has no clue what she is doing! She lies and twists words to make her look good. Replace her immediately and the board needs to take their time to select the best person for the job. They did not do that when they hired her.
She has been effective with focusing more on education and class size than previous supers but has removed many important supports like special ed supports, mental health supports, discipline and staff/teacher morale

The district was having difficulties, those difficulties have advanced to a death spiral and people are starting to leave because they can't afford to live here anymore.

This is based on data, the negligence of rights and supports for students & employees. The constant signing of documents that just aren't true.
Loss of employees, lack of support, lack of discipline
No confidence vote.  Poor leadership, caused divisiveness and created a toxic culture. Has cost taxpayers probably millions of dollars in settlements due to wrongful Terminations of valuable teachers.  Has not been forthcoming with truthful information.  Leads through fear and intimidation. Has camp followers on the board whose votes she commands.  Has poor outcomes on many initiatives she implemented in a vacuum. 
The schools are not safe

Toxic work environment and inability to manage both people and finances. Needs to lose attitude. Dr. title doesn’t make you smart or better.
The decision to close these schools and not have a plan for the children. The late snow calls.

She has ruined this district in multiple ways
I have had kids in this district for 13 years. Things were far from perfect under Como, but the last few years have been a horrible decline in curriculum, safety, discipline, etc... I lost hope and moved out of the district. It was very sad making that decision.
She has created an atmosphere of fear and failure.
Micro managers rarely succeed. Especially ones who paint a false picture of reality and ignore their employees, alienate their constituents and push their agenda forward anyway.
Mismanagement of funds outsourcing
She is not making decisions in the best interest of the students.
She doesn’t seem to be taking the school district forward.  She is driving so many teachers and students out of the district.  She doesn’t seem to know how to work together with the teachers.  Teachers shouldn’t have to worry about their jobs every time they walk into their school.  Time for a change...she needs to go!!!
She lies!
Her policies and choices up to this point have put the district in a downward spiral. We have lost students, teachers. Administrators and staff members at alarming rates which is detrimental to our students’ education. She is not interested in working in collaboration with the CASD community. Instead she appears to only be interested in pushing her agenda forward.
Poor decisions, lack of community
Her behavior shows that she has no respect, understanding, the value of our district and community. She has no interest in having a meaningful partnership with families and the community. I lost confidence shortly after she came here.
The exodus of teachers and students is very alarming.
I have watched my own kids choose to leave the district based on her policies and lack of enforcement of discipline. I have watched way too many teachers leave and seen too many classes without qualified teachers due to lack of time to prep for their subject.
Lack of support for spec ed students and teachers, relaxed discipline, and a hostile work environment for employees.

I feel as though she is rude (as she rarely looks up from the desk during meetings) and is falsely happy regarding her report during meetings ... all fluff as she refuses to take on the REAL issues.
Based on several factors that have come to light, plus what I am reading about teachers not having a good working relationship with administration and even being thwarted by administration I have lost confidence in her leadership.
Performance is poor, many GREAT teachers have left, discipline is out of control, and our taxes are ridiculous.

It is proven that Dr. Taschner is not listening to the parents, students, or teachers in many failing areas, yet are taxes continue to increase yearly.
Poor grades, senseless spending and no accountability. Poor programs for children who need it
Because my child was a student there, and she never followed through on the things that she personally promised me she would do.
With all the problems I hear about in the schools and nothing is being done to resolve these issues.   I work with teachers at the elementary school and they have no support from the school board.
Dr. Tashner has made countless changes to staff and curriculum that are harmful to my children.  They have lost a math and biology teacher,  their special education teacher, gifted teacher, and their guidance counselor.  They now are struggling with math because of the failed CPM curriculum.

3. How effective is the Superintendent in communicating to the community?

With my oldest finishing 5th grade, I have often felt lost about what is going on with her education. The upcoming transition into middle school this fall has only exasperated my confusion.
Demagogues
She is a great politician when she talks but has little to no ability to do what she says.
She is deceptive and often lies.
Still waiting for a issues to de felt with from 7th grade and 10th my child is now going on 12th just still waiting for them emails to be answered or even the phone call to be called back
Get some information but not everything
All communications are lies, stretching the truth, promises that are unrealistic.  NOT TRANSPARENT
She seems completely disingenuous.  It’s painful listening to her during board meetings.
She communicates very well when she wants to and with whom she wants to. As a parent who is also an employee, I have found that certain information is not sent to me, while others do receive it. I have questioned this on multiple occasions and been given vague explanations and/or told they will rectify the situation, yet nothing has been remedied. Her communications also often relay one perspective which is often grossly inaccurate if you are privy to the actual details. She spins her communications to suit her purposes.
Depends on the topic - the newsletters we get weekly from Scott MS and CASH are informative.
Much of what she says is a cover-up or lacking touch with reality.
She only shares what she wants us to know.  She is a liar and twists facts to benefit her. 
Communication only happens after the information makes its way to social media or there is no information or explanation provided at all.

While there has been, I am sure numerous tax dollars spent on color flyers the real story and important questions are not being addressed.  It seems to be a smoke and mirror show.
As someone who doesn’t have kids in the district it is fair to say that no communication has been made to make me aware of the happenings in the district.
I have a hard time believing anything she says because she doesn’t show any respect for the community’s concerns or for our children and has proven to show lack of concern or respect for our teachers. When concerned parents speak at the meetings she doesn’t even give the respect to look up at them.
Her glossy newsletters are filled with twisted or misinformation.  She could have spoken at the end of the last board meeting, but instead she sent her email to the Daily Local.
She talks a good talk but state of the district contradicts what she says
While this superintendent does communicate frequently with the community, her message is guarded and skewed to her own narrative rather than an honest representation of our current state of affairs. She hides behind innuendo and the personal achievements of some of our students while completely overlooking the struggles of or successes of others.

I bet the money spent on those mailings could have paid the salary of multiple teachers or special Ed supports that the district so desperately needs.

I have had a number of talks with Dr. Taschner who never puts anything in writing and often times avoids answering questions especially ones that may be viewed as questionable.

Transparency is what the community wants, instead lies and back tracking are used. Her version of positives are put to press while the realities of what’s truly going on is hidden. If a parent or resident finds out and posts on social media then all of a sudden a carefully worded memo or announcement will be sent out. The middle school planning alone is an example. She completely moved forward with this idea before it was board approved now my colleges and students have no clue where they will be next year.

In my personal experience as a student and my parent’s experiences with communicating directly with the superintendent I was always responded to in a timely manner. However, I believe this to be due to my involvement as a student and her desire to connect with me as a student leader. Other students equally as passionate and deserving of an answer, were not treated in the same way.
Vague and generalized answers such as "I understand your concerns" and "we'll look into that" are merely lip service or politically correct statements that are most often left with no follow up or resolution.

I have only needed to do so once, regarding an issue with my now graduated child. She responded promptly and was able to assist in clearing up the confusion.

However,  it took at least 3 emails and it was a simple matter of cleaning up large amounts of trash a Reeceville. Everyday she would tell me it would be taken care of and everyday the trash remained.

5. How well do the superintendent's plans and programs match the goals and mission of the Coatesville Area School District?

She is not supportive of the teachers yielding a mass exodus from the district. Additionally academic and standardized testing scores have declined as a result of the core curriculum especially in the mathematics department. My children have a very poor understanding of mathematics and have done poorly on the testing. They are very intelligent children just not learning from the curriculum. The current teachers are subpar and lack skill

I don’t think she is actively trying to work against the goals/mission. However, I do believe her primary focus is achieving her goals, regardless of how that may conflict with anything else. If it meshes with the District goals/mission, great. If not, too bad, her priorities are top priority, no matter what.

My child was not offered same level math courses Algebra at South. That the students at Scott and North were offered. I don’t even know how that is possible.

The poor decisions and the leadership since she’s taken over we are now pulling our youngest from the district. So we have to deal with the enormous tax increases, and also pay private school tuition. Both of her brothers graduated from the district. The decline has been fast and it’s getting worse each year.
Some of the changes have been positive, however, they have been failing in their funding and follow through.
Are the superintendent’s goals as the same as the district? Where would one find the superintendent’s goals?
To me it seems like she is purposely trying to take down the school.
I think her expectations are to raise the level of performance for teachers and students and teachers who have no stake in the district refuse to do what is best for the students.
It's sad to see so many students, great teachers and staff leave our district.  It will take years to recover once she and her handpicked people are gone.
This superintendent follows her own agenda with a blatant disregard for the traditions and values of this proud community.
Her ideas may work in a primarily white, higher income district however, we need to take into account the needs of our diverse population and she has no idea what that means. Throwing around the word diversity does not mean you understand.
Her clear disdain for the students with special needs tells me she is working against the mission of not only our district, but ANY district!

Her lack of leveling classes is the opposite of innovative. Her refusal to take the feedback the community gives makes the community not want to support her. Lastly, the teachers and administrators are BULLIED, not necessarily dedicated... sadly.

Complete opposite. Up until 7th grade, my son's special needs education was being met. In 8th grade, it went downhill, as the behavior of other students worsened and he did not get all the support that was noted in his IEP. As a result, he struggled greatly in a few subjects, especially math.

All  I know the district was better before she got here.  Kids were held accountable. Teachers had the autonomy to do what was best for their class. Now they brought in this Unit of Study Crap, took out classic novels from our curriculum and made teachers put kids is "Learning groups" which does not work for most classes especially at the middle school level.
Lowering the grade level hurt a lot of kids going to the next level.
I think that her intentions are good but she needs to start off with different goals. For example, instead of upgrading and working with what is available she wants to spend money to build better. 
Many of the programs she has tried to institute have been put in place without properly training teachers and staff in their implementation. In addition, they are programs that have not worked in other Title 1 schools. They do not match o4 address the difficulties and strengths of coatesville.

She thinks she’s being innovative in the different curriculum but she actually hurting the district as proven with dismal scores. She is hell bent to get rid of all the teachers as her way of getting rid of high salaries staff.  She’s killing the moral of the community.
Her plans in special ed are not based on the goals. Her disciple program is the worst one I have ever seen, and I taught for 39 years.
There were "no objective" standards established from the start with the position description and contract.
They may match the goals on paper, but not providing a safe and orderly school for kids to learn in will distract from learning - the whole point of school.
I’m seeing a drastic decline in academic performance from my students, I’m talking multiple grade levels behind. The curriculum does not fit our population and doesn’t prepare our students for higher education or careers. There has been an extreme out pouring of our students into private schools and charter schools. Many of the plans present for the future are going to make that number go up. My neighbors said if the middle school plan goes through they will leave district as well. This would mean not a single student in my fairly large neighborhood would attend a district school. 
4 1/2 years and we have made no progress and continue to loose students and teachers I think that speaks for its self on well out programs are working

The school district’s mission statement claims that all students should be promoted to the next grade level.  This means that all students pass,  even though they don’t learn the skills they need to pass the Keystone test.  This makes no sense.
6. For those who have removed or are thinking about removing your child from the district, how likely would it be for you to reconsider staying in CASD if there was a change in leadership?

Programs and actions need to take place with curriculum, behaviors, and appropriately staffing each building.  That will not happen under the current supervisor and assistant to the superintendent!
One will return for her senior year but the other will not stay in casd
I would have to see major changes before entrusting my child's education to CASD AGAIN.
I am holding on as best I can, but our history does not make it easy to have faith that we will turn the corner and start going in the right direction. I believe in this district and I want that to happen, but we’ve been burned so many times, it’s hard to be optimistic. That being said, every day thing remain the same is one more day I’m fighting with myself to keep my kids here. A change would at least give me hope that things might turn around.
We have gone back & forth since our sons gave entered high school abt removing them. They did not want to leave the school district, so we have kept them here. They will be seniors next year, and there have been a few issues where we have not been happy with a few of their teachers, where they actually have been awful. But, since our daughter graduated from CASH, they wanted to as well!

We also need to bring back the reading and math programs from the past.  The current ones are not effective and I feel my children are not learning.  I would bring my children back if they remove the current leadership and revise the programs.
It’s going to take years to correct the mess
I have no school aged children.  My children did get an excellent education in CASD about 15-20 years ago.  Today my daughter would not purchase a home in the CASD due to the school district.
A LOT of changes would have to happen very quickly to get this district back to where it needs to be. Remove current administrators is a good start but so much needs to be done before we would ever consider sending our kids to CASD.
Although we do have a grandson still in the district--grade 2. 
We are currently looking at our options but if we leave we will not come back unless drastic changes happen.
The current leadership will not remove discipline problems. This results in students being placed in higher level classes to avoid discipline distractions, thus these children do not get proper instruction either. While I agree they need quality education, this is affecting the needs of the greater student body.
I would never leave coatesville
I would like my child to stay in CASC however under the current leadership and the lack of resources provided to all students, leaving the district may be something I will consider in the near future.
Both my children graduated after 12 years in the Coatesville Area School District.  The involvement of the parents in their children's lives is more important than the leadership at the top.

I pulled my 11th grader this past school year. Decided to give it another shot for his senior year. I worry every day I have made a mistake.
Because of safety and quality of education
If discipline was addressed and principals were once again in charge of their schools we may consider it. We also need good principals, people who are leaders and not dictators, who know how to communicate well with both their faculty and students. We had a bad administrative experience at South Brandywine this year.
After the horror stories from parents, students, and friends who are faculty, it will take ages to turn this district around.
We are considering sending our children elsewhere. We moved to coatesville with every intent of sending them through the district but mostly due to lack of discipline, safety, and classroom management issues, we are strongly looking into other options or moving altogether. A change in leadership, depending on what the direction of the change is, would be a consideration for staying.
It is not just the current leadership. Coatesville has a terrible HISTORY of bad leadership which makes them very untrustworthy when it comes to who is in charge.
Possibly, depends upon who takes the job, we are up to about 30 years of crazy at the superintendent position here.

My kids go to private school currently but we are choosing to put them in CASD.
Cathy Taschner has done so much damage to the district that I sadly do not see it being fixed before my child graduates so we will not be returning.  However, if she would have left years ago before ruining special education and allowing the discipline issues to become what they are now we most likely would not have left.
CASD has a systematic issue that will take several years to be corrected once the correct leadership is in place.

Change in leadership would not result in the immediate return of my child. I would have to see considerable change throughout many facets of the district including discipline. 
If it were not for a change in the school board recently and for the amazing teacher we would of left!
If positive changes are made we will stay in the district. We have 4 years to decide so we really hope to see a change!
Don’t have kids. So getting screwed over. Coatesville makes Camden NJ look like Harvard. If I had kids they would be anywhere but CASD.

CASD needs to emulate Downingtown School District in curriculum, rigor, a separate STEM school, summer math and reading, homework, etc.  Basically hire a leader from DASD to change CASD for the better and bring kids back and to keep kids from leaving. 
I sent my daughter to EF in K and have since moved on to charter school.  At the charter they hold the kids accountable and discipline.  We will never send our children to coatesville until there is a proven track record of removing the distractions and disciplining those that need it.  You cannot have a good learning environment with constant disrespect and disruption
She does have some good ideas but also makes some poor decisions
Seems to me that concerned, considerate, thoughtful, consistent and knowledgeable leadership is needed at all levels. The climate or culture of a building or office is established by the leaders...
As a former teacher in the district it is disheartening what is happening to my former colleagues. The lack of discipline and accountability of students and their parents is unacceptable. We are putting other students educational needs aside to be referees in the classroom. Teachers are being attacked, students are afraid and parents are uninvolved.

It’s only going to get worse as more students leave as well as teachers.

I have reached out to Dr. Tashner several times regarding a child whose behavior has increasingly become worse over the 3 years at a school. He at one point physically assaulted my child, and brought a weapon to school. And each time an “investigation” was opened, yet the child was let back into the district. She has let us down as the superintendent. I am a graduate of CASD, and I wanted my child to experience all the wonderful things that I did, but with the schools becoming increasingly unsafe that dream is becoming more of a nightmare. Her lack of leadership and disconnect from the community has trickled down, and those people put into place (principals) the HELP guide and keep our children safe have failed.
Discipline.  Principals need to take control of their schools.  The children are running and ruining the current schools.
We need change if we have any chance of saving what’s left of our district.
The teachers are also suffering because of her.

We continued to wait each year thinking things will get better and they just continued to get worse. We have since taken our kids out of CASD.
Having friends that are teachers-who tell me a fair number of them do not even have their children attend Coatesville schools. Where is their commitment to excellence? Why do they expect the best for their own children but not the best for the others? Is it because the others are poor and marginalized??

My daughter is in 6th grade at south brandywine.  She has had the worst year ever. Tests are not modified when they are supposed to be modified. She has to memorize everything which she cannot do.  Beginning of the school year she was not even in a co taught classroom I was told she did not need it but she has an IEP for it.  So they put her in the classrooms then September the English co taught teacher left and she did not have anyone in there.  I went for my IEP meeting December was told they were hiring a teacher still no teacher in February.  In the IEP meeting I was told by the 8th grade LST that she could not tell me what gracie needed bc she was not her case manager. The principal and assistant were both in these meetings they had no answer for me.  It was sickening.  This is a 6th grade child with high anxiety about school she needs a routine and received nothing.  It has been a bad experience and she is my 4th child going through south brandywine my oldest is 27.  In all my years with coatesville we have never experienced anything like this at all.  Numerous emails sent to administration no answer!!   I am really considering sending her someone else because of this she basically hates going to school.  Which no child should ever experience.
It is time for her to go and hope we can get the district back to what it once was.
Coatesville is more than a name. It's more than a city. It's a home. A home filled with family and friends willing to do anything in the name of love and pride for each other.  We are a forgiving and patient people but we are not complacent and we will not tolerate continued disrespect and disregard for our concerns. I feel my daughter's school has done great things for their students even with the current superintendent leadership. The principle is great and provides as much as he can for the students for what he is given.

Not only am I a parent and tax payer but I worked for the school district and new vet felt like the district gave a crap about me as an individual.
I am continuing to live in the district, but will be sending my children to a charter school that will provide the appropriate and up to date curriculum and services. Special Education is almost non-existent in CASD. The CCIU provides recommendations for children in need of a variety of support and the school district is not providing the resources or services. Rainbow Elementary School is the only school I would consider returning to in the future. Mr. Maloney works with the teachers and students directly to resolve issues.
It’s disappointing to consider someone a cancer but when you infect and affect multiple school districts and ruin communities and people’s lives... she’s a cancer!

People on very limited income over 65 should not have to pay school taxes. That's why they got the lottery I thought. Work all your life and then try to live off $8,000.00 a year by yourself is an atrocity.
As a retired person the Coatesville school district, I do NOT want higher taxes. Our taxes are higher than the Downingtown District and they have a well-run system. The answer to every problem is not more money.
Dr. Taschner has literally taken down a dynasty of corruption, thieves and mismanagement of this district.  I commend her for not being intimidated by the bullies of this community who want her gone. 
I keep hearing people say they want to change the school board, however change the school board and you’re going to have a whole bunch a new folks in and they’re not gonna make you happy anyway, however they’ll have no experience as well
I work at a middle school of another district. The overall difference is unbelievable and I feel sad for the students at CASD because the board and administration do not have their best interest in mind or we would have seen a more positive change at this time.
The schools are not kept up to par.  Meaning they are dirty and not cleaned well.  Very disappointing to see that way

PLEASE HELP OUR KIDS IN THIS DISTRICT!!!!!!!!
I am a taxpayer and employee in the district. My children attend a private school for many reasons that do not have to do with Coatesville. Yet, the number one reason on that list as to why they do not attend Coatesville schools is the great lack of discipline.
Just about every longtime friend of my children who have grown up in the school district have moved to either Downingtown or West Chester.
The superintendent needs to be on the same page as the teachers and administration in the district and have their back. Ours does not! Unhappy teachers aren’t effective! I want my kids to learn and grow in an environment with happy teachers, safe classrooms, actual supplies and books that are needed, and in buildings that aren't falling down around them!
This district is not what it was when we first started.  My fourth and final child is graduating this Thursday.   We have not lost faith in our district but to do it again we would be removing our children until things improved.   CPM is one of the worst programs that has failed our children   I truly pray for the future children and our teachers things turn around and improve. 
The buses are terrible. Each bus, specifically Caln Elementary, needs an assistant or monitor.
I wish the airing of dirty laundry would stop on social media. The gossip and drama need to stop. It gives us a black eye worse than the DLN. There are others outlets: attend school board meetings, call school board members, join task forces, call administration building, call principals,
send letters, send petitions, support and work with the teachers, demand answers.
The drama turns me off.
It's just sad what happened to Coatesville.  I taught some GREAT kids their over the years, but when kids are not held accountable and people who couldn't stand in our classroom for 5 seconds and really teach and not just teach in front of a "staged class" with 5 administrators, 2 superintendents and everyone but the US Marines to keep control are telling us how to teach our kids.  What a joke!  Darn sad!!

CASD used to be a place of pride, now we no longer challenge the students with good academic standing and we are not helping the students who need additional educational supports appropriately.

This is about the same in more than 70 percent of ALL public schools in the Commonwealth of PA since "no one cares" about responsibility and accountability of elected and appointed public officials adhering to and conforming to laws and policies......
We need an administration that focuses on fully supporting our teachers and encourages them as they continue to work to offer our students the best education possible!
In my humble opinion, the Superintendent should be poorly overall.  Sadly, I can name all the bad that is happening in our district due to her than a I can name all the positives.  Honestly, she has had plenty of years to provide herself and she hasn’t done it yet.  It’s time for change which means she needs to go!
Cathy needs to go. I’m not a pro-union fan AT ALL, but there needs to be order in the school. The kids are students, not the leaders. The leaders of the school need to set the agenda and the rules. If it takes getting tougher on kids with discipline and the “incident” statistics rise, so be it. The stats only tell part of the story. If the public sees “better” stats for things like fights, but no one believes the stats because they know what’s really going on, the public will have no trust in the board and the leadership. The leadership need to set the standards and rules and hold kids accountable. Let the teachers teach.

I’m saddened and angered by the decline in my district. I fear for my job constantly. However conditions have also gotten so bad at work that I question if I have another year left in me. I’ve watched these changes happen over the last few years as a direct result of the current superintendent and her administration.
Taschner has to go.  Setting our district back years.  Most likely the single biggest reason our taxes go up year after year. 
It’s a shame that every school around Coatesville is not running a Deficit. We the public have heard and seen enough. She received an increase while teachers are leaving the school district. She lives in Great Valley, wasn’t familiar with the culture and make up of Coatesville.

Bring back district alt ed!!
Well, since you asked... I have stayed completely out of the conversation in the CCAP groups. I feel there is a false notion among the more vocal members of the group that to agree with anything the superintendent does is to be against the teachers, and I don't think it is helping our district or our students. I feel nervous, intimidated, and invalidated about sharing my children's mostly positive experiences in the district, as I have seen others who do so mocked and accused of being  mouthpieces for the superintendent. I am also reluctant to share concerns, no matter how minor or typical of any public school district they may be, because I am afraid they will be taken as "gotcha" examples against the superintendent instead of serving as starting points for discussion.
I attended the planning meetings for the 6th and 7/8 buildings. I was in favor of them moving forward. Was everything nailed down perfectly? No. But we had good teachers and administrators ready to make it work. The vote to table has left many more things up in the air.

I wanted to speak at the last board meeting but worried that my elementary student would be retaliated against by some of the teachers. I am not happy about my older children's teachers texting them to tell them to wear black to the board meeting. I am not happy about the elementary teachers telling the students to ask their parents what the board was going to be about. I am not happy about the thinly veiled racism I have heard with my own ears out of the mouths of my children's teachers. I am not happy about teachers mocking their required equity trainings because they don't believe in the existence of white privilege. (Seriously, and again, something I heard myself, first hand.) Some of these teachers have been publicly lauded by CCAP. Some are very closely affiliated with school board candidates.

The torches and pitchforks are not leaving space for voices in the middle who have thoughts about both the good and the bad. I am less concerned about who our superintendent is and more concerned about the ugly tactics used to make the experiences of a few seem universal. If I leave this district, it will not be because of the superintendent, and it will not be for STEM or collegium, or Avon Grove. It will be for another urban, diverse school district where the teachers have genuine respect and cultural sensitivity for their students and the community members don't bash each other on social media.

Please I ask the board to diligently ask for detailed plans, inquire with the teachers, students and constituents before voting for anything. I also ask to independently fact check information she provides. She has given information in direct conflict with the truth. If the board asks for something and it’s not supplied hold her accountable!  Finally please consider removal from this position. We have suffered enough. Thank you for this opportunity.

She really doesn’t know how to do her job effectively.  I hope there is more research done when her replacement is hired.  I am under the understanding that the last district she worked for had problems with her.  Really believe she never should have been hired in the first place.  School Board do your homework before you hire another Superintendent!

As an outside contractor I’m appalled by the filth of south Brandywine. No cleaning appears to occur.

I would love for the superintendent to leave the district so the teachers, parents, students and taxpayers can put their faith in someone new who has Coatesville's best interest at heart.
The School Board needs to seriously look at this poor Superintendent and get rid of her before it’s too late to turn it around.  We were always proud that our 2 kids graduated with honors from CASD but I would not enroll a child now if we had more!  Taxes are outrageous and property values are way down.
It is time for Taschner to go! Just like other surrounding districts finally had the courage to get rid of her!
The school buildings and playing fields are fine we need to start thinking about the academics and not the beautification
Another reason I may move my daughter is that I fear for her safety.  There is no discipline in place, and students are allowed to walk the halls all day without consequences.  This is a bad example that my child now thinks is normal.
